Nebraska Chukar Hunting
Nebraska chukar hunting is a fast and challenging upland bird hunt offered at Prairie Sands Hunting. These delicious tasting gamebirds are a bountiful addition to any dinner. Chukar, a member of the pheasant family yet classified as partridge, flush hard and fast, and present a challenge to best of upland bird hunters. They will bunch up into coveys and you will usually experience mulit-bird flushes. Prairie Sands has the habitat for supporting great chukar hunting opportunities. The native grasslands, rolling hills and abundance of natural foods are perfect for hunting chukar in Nebraska.
Chukar are a medium-sized upland game bird, with the males being slightly larger than the females. Adult male chukar can often be identified when in hand by the button spur or spur bump on the back of their legs. Generally, Chukar are grayish brown to olive above, with buff underparts. There is a very distinct black line through the forehead, eyes, and down the neck with a white throat and gray upper breast. Chukar also are identified by having orangish-red legs and bill, with prominent black and brown barring or stripes on flanks, and the brown tail feathers are very distinctive.
Hunting chukar in Nebraska is a hunt that will challenge the best of upland bird hunters. These smaller upland birds are fast and unpredictable in their flushing technique. Some chukar will "pop-up" right in front of you, and the next covey of chukar will flush fifty or more yards ahead of you. Otherwise, you may freeze as they burst out in front of you, and you end up sitting with a full chamber of shells and empty game pouch!
